Fray I.D.

Sorry to be so quiet around here today. I've been a master procrastinator this week putting off both of my Sync articles until today – I submit two every other Tuesday – and skipping out on *most* of my Christmas shopping until now. I still haven't had time to do it, so I'll be a at the store with all the rest of the bozo's tomorrow (raise your hand if you're with me!). 

I have lots of outfit photos on my card reader to show you, but until I find time to edit those I'll just keep sharing some of my favorite collections. I left the Japanese labels alone for a bit (like, half a day), but surprise, surprise, I'm back on track again today. This label is called Fray I.D. and I'm head over heels for the lush 60s vibe in their latest collection! Favorite piece: fur collar camel coat with *to die for* bow buttons. It's going on my thrift list, but I have a feeling this one isn't going to surface.

I think I mentioned these photos a few weeks ago, but I've been too busy to edit them until now. The theme and styling of the outfits was strictly based around Corey's pants. He found them at Saver's a few months ago, but every time he wore them for some pictures something else always came up before we could photograph them. On this particular day, I promised him that I would finally get around to shooting them. I thought it would be fun to style some similar looks for me and Brittany, too.

I'm so used to doing these pictures alone that it was nice to have some company behind the camera for a change. I think both Brittany and Corey looked extra cute too! We looked like little school children. My favorite shot is the one towards the top where Brittany and I are throwing our hats in the air. Do you see where my hat is and where I'm looking? ha. It doesn't even make any sense, but I look so darn happy.

Snidel

 

 I've fallen so hard for this great Japanese label called Snidel. I accidentally found their site the other day and haven't been able to get it out of my head ever since. Their latest collection reminds me of so many great things. . .

♥ The first photo reminds me of Marc Jacobs latest campaign. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because they both have a ghostly feel to them.
♥ The photo of the girls in cozy sweaters and matching berets reminds me of Bonnie and Clyde. Love.
♥ The cream-colored boxy suit reminds me of the designs from Luella's spring 2009 collection. So many ruffles and boxy 60's-inspired coats in that bunch!

I could rave about every single outfit here, but if I had to call it, I'd say my favorite outfit is the one with the white collared navy sweater and the patterned skirt, and (I get one more!) the amazing lace petticoat with the floral top and beautiful heeled loafers!

Y'all didn't expect me to give that kitty bag away without styling it up first, did ya?

The 60's coat makes such a cheerful combo with that bag. I couldn't resist carrying it just once before sending it off! Who knows, the two pieces may have even been worn together sometime in the past. I found them both at that grand estate sale I was raving about a couple of days ago. I fell in love with the coat on the first day of the sale, but I had to leave it behind because I found too many other great things. I went back to on Sunday – the major 50% off discount day – and loaded up on a few more things. The coat needs a good cleaning and a few stitches around the pockets, but for $4 I really can't complain much.

It feels weird to post such a cold weather outfit just after I posted all those swimsuit photos. The weather is so neutral right now that I can basically wear whatever I want – a rarity here in the South. I had a cute 60's drop waist dress paired underneath, one that reminds me a lot of the Family Affairs dress I saw on both Rhiannon and Carrie this past week, but I decided it to save it for another day!

I finally got that new lens I was so desperate for after returning home from New York – a 50mm F/1.8. From the second Corey and I started using it, we were in love. It makes our photos so much easier and prettier! This set of photos was our first go with the new lens and needless to say, we're in love.

I finally added some more pieces to the shop last night, but this time I went with a  60's/70's inspired theme! I know it's kind of a stretch from my own personal style, but when I first started thrifting for my store a couple years ago, this seemed to be the vintage I was drawn to. Maybe it's because it was so obviously vintage and easy for me to recognize, but whatever the reason, it's been hanging on my dress rack for way too long and desperately needs to find a home before Goodwill gets a hold of it. I priced everything super low for that reason. Most things are under $30! It seems like I get a lot of really retro pieces given to me too, either from friends parents or grandma's, or sometimes even because they saw it at the thrift store and thought about me. I never sell any gifts though! I'll only sell an item if they bought it with the intention of me putting it in the shop. When I posted these photos on Facebook last night (you should friend me, btw!) I had a girl offer to give me 25 vintage dresses that she was planning on dropping off at a thrift store. You already know what I said.

Since these looks were so far away from my style and since I was super duper busy leading up to this shoot, I got really lazy with the styling and put the girls in the same shoes and socks the whole way through. I'm a cheat and ripped the black shoe/sock combo off from the Orla Kiely fall lookbook, but then again, who could blame me?

I never have much inspiration when I start a daily quest through my closet. I guess sometimes I may have a certain image or style in the back of my mind but nothing real tangible at first. That usually changes once I get one or two key pieces on. They're almost always in a neutral color (usually involving my oxfords in someway....they're so comfy!) allowing me to add some kind of quirky accessory or added flair at the end without feeling like I went overboard.

Luckily I did a complete overhaul of my closet Thursday night with a total of 8 get-rid-of bags (closet tour soon)! I feel like I can finally think without having to dig through heaping piles of clothes on a search for one shoe. This resolve from clutter is just what I needed to move forward. I can find pieces I want without compromise, and they don't have to be ironed because they were wadded up on the floor!

One of my floor finds and something I've been "missing" for about a month now is that lighter style cotton pea coat I got from the lost and found container at work. It's just a tad small and kinda makes for a funny silhouette (I think it would look better in a size bigger), but it was the exact piece I needed to complete this outfit with a point of view, I guess you could call it, at the end.

I'm sure it's no surprise that point of inspiration that finally formed in my head came from the princess of mod herself, Twiggy. Of all my internet searches for pea coats, mod styles, ascot bows and anything else my outfit somewhat imitated, the below images are the only ones that matched, kinda.

As my internet searches usually do, this led me to even more searches for mod gals in the 60's and reintroduced me to one of the hippest ladies of the time, Mary Quant. What a lady! One of many young talents responsible for the uber mini skirts and lolita styles that were so risque and fashionable on the London scene in the 60's and for her part in ushering in the whole boutique movement by opening up Bazaar boutique on Kings Road.



And I'm really not sure if it's a Quant design or not, but the lace dress on the girl second from the right reminds me so much of the Behnaz Sarafpour for Target dress that I sold on ebay a while back. Both are sort of doily lace with a progression of color ending in black....very similar, no?
