Maxi Dresses, Floppy Hats, and Downton Abbey

Platforms: Topshop
Floppy Hat: Goodwill
Necklace: c/o Romwe

Lately the weather has been perfect. Flowers are blooming, the sun is shining, and pictures have been more fun than ever. Julie has had this dress floating around the Delightful Dozen for a while, and I'm so happy to finally have it in my possession. I can't think of anything better for the 70s trend.

After working on all those David Hamilton scans the other day, I was inspired to string some flowers into my floppy hat, too. With the platforms, the maxi dress, the print, and the floppy hat, I'd say this is just about as 70s as I get. Funny thing is, it actually kind of reminds me of the early 1900s, as well.

I know, I know. You guys are probably thinking, 'of course it does you Edwardian-obsessed maniac', but hear me out! I'm watching a British mini series called Downton Abbey on Netflix (streaming!) right now, and I swear, the material, the cut, and the way my hand wants to hold it every time I walk seems just like something that Cora or Lady Mary would wear/do, too. The show was referred to me by one of my awesome blog readers, and I'm am so so so so grateful to her for telling me about it. We're taking a break from Deadwood at the moment so that Jake can get some movies in the mail too, and Downton Abbey is holding me over while I wait my turn. I feel like part of my heart is resting in Deadwood, South Dakota circa 1870 while the other half is lingering in England circa 1912. It's silly how attached I get to these shows. I really need to take screen shots. . .

I can never decide if I'm completely on board with the 70's trend, but then I see you rocking a look like this, and I wonder what my objections are!

Your hair looks especially lovely here, and the flowers in your hat are a perfect finishing touch. And I agree that there's something distinctly Edwardian about the outfit. A lot of 70's-era clothing makes me thing of Edwardian aesthetics. Just a bit less stuffy maybe.

Yay, I'm so excited to hear that Downtown Abbey is on Netflix streaming-- I've been reading about it on blogs for ages, and I really need to see it!

You look so striking in that dress! I definitely see the Edwardian influence in its fluttery details, and the pretty white flowers make it even more so.

Starr! This series of photos is so beautiful. Whimsical, and the colors are beautiful. It really looks like you have summer already in Arkansas!
I love PBS...the mini-series they show are always so interesting. I especially love all of the films of classic books. Their interpretation of Tess of the D'Urbervilles and Sense and Sensibility were two of my favorites!

You always look amazing, but this outfit seems to be plucked out of a 70s editorial magazine. You are so gorgeous! And I need that dress so bad!! Or something like it:)

I don't understand, everytime I try to make flower crown with living flower, I always fail --- I cannot seem to tie knots between them, the knots always come off -__-; But yours look lovely, especially on that floppy hat!

Beautiful! I need to pull out my 70s floral maxi dress. I got it from Paddywack's ages ago. I love it, even though my husband thinks it looks like "grandma's curtains" ha... xoxo.

Lovely! The styling on the outfit is perfect, especially with the 1970s maxi dress. I would have to say that the necklace is my favorite part.

You're not the only one obsessed with Downton Abbey. I watched the whole series in ONE SITTING because it got me hooked. I hear that they're making another season right now!

This is so lovely! I love floppy hats for spring.
