Batty

Jake and I have slowly been moving into our new place, carrying small loads so we don't have to move it all at the end of the month. It's sad to think that we'll be leaving our downtown apartment soon. I think it's been one of the best homes I've ever had, architecturally speaking. I'm not sure how much I've shared about it in the past, but now that I see a departure in our near future, I can't help but get nostalgic.

Before we moved in, our friend lived here for a few short months. I happened to be borrowing her exposed brick wall one day when a bat came in and hijacked our space. We fought it for a bit, eventually winning the match and dragging him outside. Our landlord told us that it's the oldest running apartment buildings in Little Rock, and being the history nut that I am, I reveled in this seemingly unprovable (to me) information. He said that the bricks were taken from the old Confederate prison when it was torn down. We always joked that the bat was a ghost of one of the Civil War soldiers.

We've lived here for two years with not a single bat problem. Then, over the weekend, one snuck in while I was away at work. If you follow me on twitter, you'll know that Jake fought it with a can of Oust and a frying pan. It took 45 minutes for the bat to fly out. Jake said it was terrifying because the bat was flying and swooping everywhere. The next day, I fought another bat with the same can of Oust and the same frying pan when Jake was away at his soccer game. Coincidence or Confederate soldier begging us to stay?

The house in the photos isn't our apartment or our new house, it's just a place a few blocks away that I always wished I could afford.

I like the red & navy combo, feels a bit patriotic. I've been wanting to wear more bold tights but keep defaulting to black.

Creepy story about the bat, I've only seen them in caves. Post pictures of the new apartment when you're all moved in!

The location for these photographs is beautiful as is that house! It would be a dream to be able to afford.

Bat problems are so scary! We have an outside pool in our backyard and when we swim at night with the lights on in the pool we have a bat that constantly flies over and drips down for drinks in the pool. SO FREAKY when you're in water! Ha.

That bat story is wonderful! And I'm inclined to believe that he is a Confederate soldier who's come to love you guys.

You dress is so cute; the print makes me think of lifesavers, which makes me think of the beach, which makes me think of summer! haha. Can you tell I'm sick of cold weather? ;)

I am kinda a fun of bats...actually I love them. Plus they eat bugs! Which I am not a fan of.

Wherever you live the houses are beautiful, I wish we had some history here, I think the oldest house date back to 1970...

i had a bat encounter a few years ago while staying in a cabin out in Oregon. I hid in the bathroom until my husband got it to fly out the door with a broom :)

Beautiful color scheme in this outfit. Reminds me of an American Girl doll (in a good, iconic-type way!) Also loving the backdrop.

Recently found your blog and I absolutely love how your outfit posts tell a story. Keep it up. It's refreshing to see something other than posing in the same position every day!

Ah, your dress is adorable! I always love blue dresses.

I'm pretty sure we had a bat in our house one time when I was younger... all I remember is my parents freaking out about it until it got out. Pretty funny :)

can somebody please tell how I can be a huge fan of navy, and a huge fan of colored tights, but I have NEVER EVER worn red tights with navy? How could this be? I am not even exagerating, I have NEVER worn a navy with bright red tights, and it looks so perfect! I know what I'll be wearing tomorrow.
