Vintage Blouse: Salvation Army $3
Vintage Skirt: Goodwill $4
Vintage Dooney & Bourke Purse: Thrift $20
Shoes: Goodwill $5
Vintage Hat: Borrowed from Timely VIntage

It's odd to reach a day when I don't have much to talk about. I usually have too many random things to say and pointless stories to tell, but this weekend was just pretty lazy. Friday night Jake invented some wild lemon chicken recipe he called "Jake's Chicken'"–creative, I know–which he made from rotel, cornflakes, cheese and lemons. It was strange and the topping sort of tasted like soggy cereal, but it was completely edible and actually didn't taste that bad–I'm sure I lost you at soggy cereal, huh? I took some etsy photos while he tended to the kitchen, and afterwards we watched more episodes of The Wire. It's our current obsession, but we're only on the third season, so no spoilers please!

If I thought that was lazy, Saturday was even worse. Jake made me watch a video of Gordon Ramsay cooking eggs before I could scramble any for him that morning–apparently I wasn't doing it right–and we laid around until I had to go to work. I promise he's not a weird kitchen critic, we're just trying to use the kitchen a whole lot more than we used to, and I'm completely oblivious when it comes to cooking.

We had an early kickball game on Sunday which ended up being extremely hot but rather quick, so it wasn't too bad at all. I probably forgot to mention I was on the kickball team this season! I figured it would be a good way to get out of the house on the weekends, and since the games are pretty quick, I would still have plenty of time to work on homework and blog photos too. I took this set of photos after the the game and a shower, and I spent the rest of the evening writing a paper about my interests for scriptwriting class, compiling questions for an upcoming blog interview, and watching the saddest recount of Hurricane Katrina ever seen–I love you Brian Williams. I watch a lot of coverage and documentaries on current events–even more so when I had cable–and I've seen my share of investigations and coverage on Hurricane Katrina. This report was by far the most emotional and gut-wrenching piece of television I've ever seen. I was bawling my eyes out watching these people, just one state over, begging for food, for water, for sanitation, for their lives. Seeing an American city turn into a war zone broke my heart.

On a lighter note, I want to thank Annie from Timely Vintage for loaning me this hat. It's the most amazing boater with beautiful chiffon petals around the brim, and it seemed like the perfect match for this navy skirt. I forgot to show the skirt with my thrift finds yesterday, but I got it, another skirt, and a hooded wool coat at Goodwill last week too.

And lookie there, I had stuff to talk about after all.

I love the hat and shoes. I had the same kind of weekend, it was slow, and lazy, which sometimes is perfect.

I *love* the Wire. I've seen the whole thing and will be watching it again, all the way through, in the future. Its definitely the best TV show ever made. Ever. For Realsies.

Glad you're feeling better about your job and everything :D

Oh my gosh, I do the same thing--think I have nothing to say and then write a ton and I still don't know how I found so much to write about. We're both just wordy gals, I guess. Your sandals are so adorable! They look just like Swedish Hasbeens.

Also two things (maybe three):
1) Oh my god! Scriptwriting class! I hope you get in and 2) I hope you will let me read your script!!! I'm writing a script too but it's on haitus.

3) I just rewatched Spike Lee's documentary on Hurricane Katrina. The first part of the film killed me. I was nonstop streaming tears and I couldn't stop hiccuping afterwards!

4) You're the greatest, and that's just a little stand alone thought I had just now.

I have been away from the internets for a little while and just catching up on all your recent posts and i must say, it's great to be back here!

I also love those shoes, I have been looking for a similar pair all summer and have nearly caved and splurged out on some expensive ones a few times but I am holding out for a good charity shop find!

Vintage shopping is always difficult where I live, "Vintage" stores are always overpriced and the thrift shops where I live are always filled with crap! but you are my inspiration to keep on searching!

The Wire is such a great show. It's actually my favorite of all time. And if you haven't already seen it, I'd recommend Spike Lee's When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts. Watching it made my heart ache for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

That is a fun hat and you styled it beautifully! Good for Jake for attempting to cook! Ethan won't even bother.

That boater hat is amazzziiinnngg. I'd want to keep that forever and ever on my head...and I'm not even a hat person in the slightest.

It's difficult to think about how people are suffering immensely from a disaster just one state over from you, I can't imagine how gut-wrenching that must be. I'm in California and it hurts just to think about it.

Fun fact: If you're ever making pecan pie and run out of pecans, you can use cornflakes as a substitute.

And actually, the cornflakes on chicken get me pretty interested. I'm sure if you baked it, it's be pretty amazing.
