Looks Like Mad Men: NYFW Inspiration

sweater2
When I found out I'd be attending this years New York Fashion Week, I was terrified at the thought of packing. I stress out when I pack for weekend trips to Jake's parents house—which is probably the only other time I've had to pack this summer, not counting Bonnaroo—so the thought of packing for a big, four day long trip during the most fashionable time of year scared me! I knew if I wanted to avoid the stressful, anxiety-ridden collapse, I'd have to get started early.

My original plan for today's post was to show you the inspiration behind my Busby Berkeley look, but I decided to hold off on that for a couple of days. Most of the inspiration came from the 1933 musical film, 42nd Street,  but I couldn't find any noteworthy stills from the movie. I casually decided to look it up at my schools library, and it turns out they had it—all I needed was a school I.D.! I plan to watch it sometime this weekend, and hopefully I'll be able to get some better movie stills to show you.

That's just one look of the bunch though! I'm trying to a little research for each outfit, and I'd also like to do an inspiration post for all of them too. It'll be a little teaser of what's to come in NYC.

I thought this editorial from the September issue of US Vogue was great fall inspiration too. It reminded me that I have no idea what the weather's like in NYC during this time of year? So, NYC friends, can I wear sweaters and tights in September, or do I need to stick to the light cardigans and bobby socks? Regardless, the colors from this editorial are incredible.

Well so far the weather has not changed. except for a few days this week but it's going back up to it's usual 90 degrees this weekend. I'll give you an update closer to nyfw. but yeah, no sweaters or tights yet, well at least not thick ones.

Last September it was sweltering. No layers, no tights, and we were all melting and begging for fans...

That is a great editorial and I agree with you about the colours. I love the reptilian green with the pink in the last picture, and the heather/marroon with grey above.

I don't know New York but I used to live in Ontario and would unhelpfully say "pack for every eventuality."

I'm pretty obsessed with Busby Berkeley films right now! I did a post on 42nd Street not too long ago... All those little rompers and shorts and cute little shoes... Amazing!

These pictures are beautiful. I love the model's gap tooth!

I love that editorial. One good thing about the bad weather in Scotland is that we can start working our Fall looks now!

The weather in NYC in September could really be anything. I don't live in NYC, but I live in New England, and at this time of year sometimes it's 100 degrees out and sometimes it's 60 degrees out. Right now it's in the 90s with miserably high humidity, just ick. I would pack light summer clothes and also things you could layer over them if it gets chilly!
