Petticoat Crybaby

Vintage Blouse: Goodwill $4
Vintage Petticoat: Blue Suede Shoes $25
Vintage Justin Boots: Ft. Smith Thrift Store $15 (thank you for making me get them Annie!)
Vintage Key Necklace: Hot Springs Thrift Store $5
Vintage Hat: Saver's $5
Socks: Saver's .69 cents

I had a tough time getting pictures yesterday and nearly went into a messy pout fest about how much I hate going on adventures by myself day after day. I envy all you girls with boyfriends who are willing to participate. Mine would rather design team name/logos/uniforms for his video games than go out on silly photo field trips with me. For some reason, the graphic designer in him likes designing that stuff more than actually playing the games.

I went out to an abandoned house in that 50's sundress I spoke about yesterday, but the photos just weren't turning out like I like. I drove around for a while looking for a better spot, but I couldn't find a place where I was comfortable enough to set up the tripod. It wouldn't be such a big deal if I had a photographer. We could just jump out, get the shot, and be done with it, but it's so much more of an ordeal with a tripod. To be fair, Jake will help me when I really need it, but I always feel like I'm dragging him into a fire when I ask.  He was playing soccer yesterday anyway.

I came home and tried to shoot the dress again, but it's just one of those pieces that needs to be outdoors. There's no way I could do it justice in the house! I changed, and then decided the same thing about the next two outfits I put on. Somehow I eventually made it to this look and was surprisingly happy with the results. I just got this petticoat on Sunday and sure didn't think I'd be wearing it this soon.

I'm done feeling sorry for myself though, and to make fun of me for being such a cry baby, here's a goofy outtake.

Oh, yeah, it's time for the Timely Vintage giveaway winner too! Congratulations to Kyra. You won a $25 giftcard to the Timely Vintage shop. :)

Really cute styling. Who can resist a poufy skirt?

I have to take all my photos myself, and it's so embarassing having to set up the tripod in public! By the time I'm done, a small crowd has often gathered. I love your petticoat though, and I love even more how unexectedly you've styled it! Brilliant outfit!

oh starr you are wonderfullly inspiring. i've said it before and i'll say it again. i have the SAME PROBLEM EXACTLY. and i pout about it a bit sometimes. i took a lonely lovely drive up to the mountains all by myself and i get all anxious about where would be a good spot to set up the tripod and it's so mortifying to me if anyone sees me so i have to go way out to secluded spaces and then i get sort of spooked and haunted feeling (which i love) anyway. it's quite a process. i LOVE your indoor photos. if i could make anything look half this good indoors that is where i'd soooo be right now. and you make me want to wear my petticoat out and about, with those dang shoes the whole thing is just killing me with cuteness.

Sorry your first photo shoot didn't go all too well. But this one certainly did! I too have only a tripod to shoot so I know how you feel. I always love your photo shoots, they're so fun and super cute!

I feel the exact same way. I don't do a lot of outfit posts, but when I do, I feel so silly just me and the tripod. I'd love to have someone to take pictures for me. My sister would rather cut her own arm off. haha Cute skirt!

Eep, I feel the exact same way (much to my chagrin and maybe like some of the other commenters!) and the thing I love most about your blog is how you will have these beautiful magical, fairy photoshoots but then you're also totally unafraid to--for a lack of a better term--be real! (I feel like I sound like Tyra Banks.) I get frustrated with mostly taking my own photos but I guess on the bright side, we're getting plenty of practice with the camera. Also, your photos always look GREAT. That petticoat is really the bee knees inside a cats pajamas!

love,
Jenny

Wow, that sucks about the whole driving around for nothing!

But nevertheless, I like how these turned out - I love your pairing of the petticoat with the rugged boots.

I like the silly outtake ;)...all this time i thought you had a "photographer"...you take some great photos of yourself, plus it helps you develop your photography skills better if you take the photos yourself.

I know exactly how you feel. I've had days exactly like this. I too wish for a fellow photo adventurer to do my pictures. The tripod is so much of a big deal at times, dragging it out, setting it up. Such a commitment.

My boyfriend is the same way! He likes taking pictures, and is willing to do outfit photos every once in a while. But only when it's in the backyard where no one can see. That's why I never go out and take pictures. It's so hard to find a good place in Orange County that is quite enough that I don't feel crazy taking pictures of myself. Hopefully that changes. I could use some good adventure pictures. Your always seem to turn out great though. No matter where they are taken.

That petticoat is so amazing! I love how you styled it too! Haha that last picture is hilarious!

my bf never wants to take pictures for me either. and when he does they are so shaky its not even worth it!

Haha, I had to laugh about your boyfriend because that sounds exactly like mine! He gets all pouty if I ask him to take pictures, although he has gotten better lately. Maybe one of these days I'll get a tripod and be brave and go out for photo adventures... Maybe. :)

I love love love your petticoat! And those boots. Ugh. I'm dying to death. So amazing.

That petticoat and the shoes are both darling.

Oh thank God! I always feel a bit envious of girls whose guys are photographers and take such stunning pictures all the time. My guy would help me out if I really needed it but he probably would not enjoy stepping in mud, getting eaten by bugs and standing in the hot sun for ages. :P

Good to know I'm not alone. And those boots kick ass. I love the fringe.

The last picture made me laugh so hard that the water I was drinking sprayed all over my screen. Woops but I love it, esp. the way the skirt pooooooffffsssss out. :D

Now that it's the weekend, I've got time to process all your lovely posts. I want an indoor set too now! In particular, the bow of a boat. Silly some people say, but I was inspired by your lovely sets. What can I do?

I really hope to see more of that beautiful 50s dress soon!!! I love it. You're wonderful!!!!!!!!! Hope to hear from you soon!

I totally know what you're talking about! I'm hunting for a boyfriend to take my pictures, haha! This shoot turned out really well though...I feel like petticoats are a bit too sexy but you wear it so well, you could totally go out in an outfit like that.

haha, i love it. i feel the same way-my boyfriend always groans and rolls his eyes when i ask him to take my photos, even though he's a photographer! granted, he prefers to take pictures of old buildings, but still! at least he goes on adventures with me.

you look incredible, as always.

your photos are all fabulous and I've been searching for a petticoat for sooooo long. Initially just for fun but I've also realized it would be great for photos to wear under dresses that are MEANT to have a petticoat underneath! It just really changes the whole feel of the dress, you know?!
