Thrift Trip Magic

Every time I take my car in for a checkup the guys at the customer service desk tell me it's only going to take an hour to get everything done. The first time I dropped it off I believed them, and I think it ended up taking around four hours. This time around I wasn't about to be fooled. I dropped it off at 9 in the morning and left it there all day. They told me it would only take an hour, and I said bullshit. When I went back to get it at 2 in the afternoon they said it would be 15 more minutes. Are you kidding me? 5 hours? I used that "fifteen minutes" to go to Carrie's Flea Market with my sister, and these are all the goodies I found.

Thanks to their lies, I now have some cool stuff for my house!

I'm always on the lookout for some good vintage luggage when I thrift, but it usually ends up being too expensive. I found that bad boy for only $5, and now all I need it two more pieces just a bit smaller than that one and some table stoppers and I'll have an end table for the living room.

The globe lamp was a pretty spectacular find for me too. My living room is loosely done in the muted colors of the globe so anytime I see a vintage globe I get real excited. The fact that this one has a lamp attached through it made it so much better, and it was only $8! Now all I need to do is make a lampshade that's appropriate for it.

I think the Dooney & Bourke purse speaks for itself. It will most likely be hitting the shop with a batch of purses I need to get together.

These pieces probably don't need too much of an explanation either. Who doesn't love moccasins and especially a pair that haver a very unique, one-of-a-kind print on them. The fringe purse purchase was most likely influenced by this article from Refinery 29 and by my sister who loved the fact that it was a little backpack. The feather hat was my last Carrie's discovery made just as I was walking over to check out. The shape is very different from any other hat I own, and I'm really not sure if I know exactly how to wear it. We shall see.

sometimes, i am glad i don't have to deal with the troubles of a car...

although, the bus can be quite unreliable and generally tremendously annoying.

the globe lamp is brilliant!

Why do car repair places always do that?! It's some universal rule that they will never be able to meet their own time restrictions. Good for you for scoring some killer finds and not giving into their clock!

The fact that the globe is both a lamp and a globe absolutely blows my mind.

Oh, wow truly good finds. I love the idea of a globe lamp. It's just so dreamy and I imagine it would have the perfect glow about it. I didn't think that it still needed a shade but I'm excited to see what you would do.

It would be so great to see you do a room/ house tour one day. It looks like you are as good a decorator as you are a stylist.

Also, I love the moccasins and fringe backpack. It looks like that last set of stuff were made for each other. I can only begin to imagine the amazing ways you will style them :)

How sad that those folks can't be straight-forward about the wait time. So annoying for you, I'm sure. The upside? That fringe bag & all your other awesome goodies. Nice work!

don't trust service writers when they tell you how long things will take!! My husband was a service writer for a few years. I remember customers getting really mad when I would go in to pick him up or bisit him on his lunch break. Now he is a parts manager so he doesn't have to deal with that, but it is hard to estimate because every car has different problems and some cars problems get fixed faster than others. It also depends on the mechanic too! When my hubby was a mechanic he got things done faster than most people, but he was also the top of his class and highly certified (he got higher and higher up promotions). ALSO i think a big problem is that they take faster easier jobs sometimes before your scheduled one!!! They would rather do a fast oil change than change four tires!! So they put someone before you. . .it's horrible that they do such things but they do!!!!!!
