Getting to Know You with Susan Gregg Koger

Hello A Thought is The Blossom readers! My name is Lindsay, and I am the writer behind My Solitary Consignment. I met Starr almost a year ago through my work at ModCloth.com where I am one of the three fashion buyers, and luckily for me, I found my style soulmate that day. Love ya, Starr!

When Starr asked me to write a guest post for her while she's living it up at Bonnaroo, I jumped at the chance. But what would be interesting enough for her thoughtful, fashionable readers? Then it hit me - an unconventional interview with my incredible, inspiring boss Susan Gregg Koger - founder and creative director of ModCloth!

I've traveled all over the US and Europe with this fine lady, and I wanted to show you the fun, hilarious, dorky side of Susan that fans of the site rarely get to see. Here is our less-than-conventional interview:

How was high school for you? How did you dress then? I was definitely part of the "alternative" crowd and not at all popular. I used to wear a LOT of black and even had a pair of jnco stovepipe jeans (which I wore with a wallet chain!) The Smashing Pumpkins were my favorite band, and I had close to 20 XL oversized t-shirts. Oh, and ball chains. I loved ball chain necklaces. I still really like the Smashing Pumpkins, by the way.

What is the dorkiest thing about you? I grew up watching Star Trek with my Dad - apparently I used to call Patrick Stewart's character "Captain Pecan" - and I still love it to this day. Any time I catch a re-run on TV, I always watch it.

What would you have you done with your life if ModCloth never materialized? That's really hard to say, since I started ModCloth at 17 and haven't looked back since. I used to want to be an astronaut, so let's just assume that would have worked out.

Any guilty pleasures? I like to watch food shows while working out. It's weird, but I love it.

Bowie or Iggy Pop (really think about this one, haha)? Bowie, of course!

Led Zepplin or Pink Floyd? Pink Floyd.

What's the worst hangover you've ever had? My 21st birthday which I celebrated in London. I'd rather not remember much more.

Any books you simply couldn't finish? Oh yeah. There have been a lot of business type books that I just couldn't get through. Some are really interesting and insightful, but on average, they're poorly written and boring.

If you could fist fight one celebrity, who would it be? I'm more of a lover than a fighter. Tyra Banks is pretty annoying, but I'm pretty sure she'd kick my ass.

Isn't Lindsay awesome? Explain. In detail. Lindsay is perhaps the only 20-something female in the world whose interests include fashion and dungeons & dragons. And that's pretty awesome.

I hope this gives you a little unexpected insight into the lady that launched a thousand outfit photos. I would follow this woman into hell!

Starr, I hope you're dancing extra hard for us. We miss you!

Sounds exciting! I wore Jnco too!! ALL THE TIME. . . I still wear a chain wallet if I am in pants with pockets in the back. . and I still wear big pants too (those tight pants just aren't my thing). This was a fun entry and interview. I didn't know modcloth was around more than a year! It is cool how Starr has guest bloggers while she's out having fun. awesome.

First I would like to say, "Hi Lindsay, I hate that I can't write on your blog so I need to say what's up on here, I'm so glad you are one of the guest bloggers on here!"

Anyways, I just love this interview, it's so lighthearted and fun. And that's what I like to read.

This was a fun interview. I didn't know that Modcloth has been around that long either! I am a huge fan of Modcloth but shipping over here to the Philippines would be way costly and time consuming :(

It was really cool to read about the brain behind Modcloth though. Starr lined up awesome guest bloggers!
