You may remember a while back when I posted about Evita's blog, The Creme de la Crop, I said I had a photoshoot very similar to one of hers in mind. You know the one where she modeled as both the guy and the girl before collaging the two together as one photograph? Well, I'd been planning this shoot for a long time before I saw her post but just hadn't found the time to execute it until now. I think seeing someone so young and talented pull it off as well as she did actually motivated me to finally get around to mine.
As soon as I thrifted this pretty red dress, I knew exactly what I wanted with these photographs. Even though I thrifted the dresses separately, they seemed like an identical match for this sort of project. The red dress was so girlie and sweet with it's thin seersucker material and puffy shoulders, and the navy one was so masculine and charming with it's full shirt pocket lined with a red and white polka dotted handkerchief. Anytime I pictured the two together I saw the famous country couple armed with a pitchfork and two blank stares, but rather than doing a direct rip off of that piece I wanted to keep thinks kind of playful. I knew the man had to have something in his hands, and I knew exactly what I wanted it to be.
That's where the banjo comes in. These outfits seemed appropriate for a front porch banjo party, so I pulled some strings to get a banjo for the day. It's really sort of a miracle I was able to get one! I casually mentioned it to one of my sisters friends just hours before the shoot, and he was like "I can get one for you". He left and was back in thirty minutes with the banjo of my dreams! I'm so grateful for that though. I don't think I would've liked these photos the same if they didn't have that prop.
Next time I think I'll make it more obvious by actually putting the man in pants, but I'm satisfied with the results from this shoot. Didn't Katy do a great job of playing both roles!
