No More Rules

Blouse & Skirt: Goodwill
Ballet Flats: Aldo
Brooch & Headband: Estate Sale

It's far too hot to justify taking self portraits outdoors this time of year. I guess if you followed my blog last summer you heard plenty of my complaints about the weather. The heat is pretty relentless here in the south, and though I try my best not to complain about it, it's draining. I'm setting up shop indoors for now. This spot in my sew/dressing room worked well for this set of pictures, so maybe it'll become more familiar over the coming months.

I tried to have more fun with this outfit than usual. I get in a fashion rut sometimes, pinning so many rules on myself as to what I can and can't style together. Lately it's gotten to the point where I'm starting to loose interest in fashion all together, so I thought it was important to step back and eliminate all the structure. I guess it's tough for me to explain these "rules"––or rather embarrassing for me to publicize my obsessive compulsive behavior with some things––but I think you guys know what I'm talking about. We all have our own code of things we just absolutely won't wear together and things that we think look awful on our own bodies. Well, sometimes those guidelines hurt more than they help, so for now, I'm trashing my rulebook.

Also, I want to start wearing lipstick! I'm sooo not a lipstick girl, but on occasion, I want to wear it. My olive skin has always proven to be a tough match for certain shades, but I'm sure there's something out there that'll look good. Anybody have some advice?

Inside, or outside, you always seem to look gorgeous!

I've only just started wearing lipstick this year and I must say it felt very weird at first and thought everyone was looking at me...but then I seriously had about 5 people ask me the first week of wearing it, what lipstick I was wearing! Oh it felt good! So, all I can say is DO IT and do it CONFIDENTLY! :)

I have a friend who is greek and has olive skin as well, I find that raspberry shades of lipstick look best on her.

I know what you mean about the "rules". I have this thing that I look ridiculous in pants. Which is actually kind of annoying because it's so much easier to just throw on jeans and a top but instead everyday I have to come up with something skirt or dressed based because I'm intimidated by pants. I need to let it go!!

I wore a tie blouse today too!! Yours is adorable . . . and I know what you mean about getting bored with fashion. I'm not all that into it right now either . . . and yes, it could be the weather. You're smart to take your photos inside. I took some outside today and it was pretty miserable--mosquitos and humidity! Ugh, southern summers.

This is such a great outfit! I always tend to lose interest in fashion in summer because there's no drive to layer or pull together a great look, all I want to do is laze around in a sundress and sandals. The brooch is amazing and the new photo location is cute too! x

You look absolutely adorable, I am in LOVE with your heart print skirt! Sooooo cute. It's funny you have to stay indoors to avoid the heat, it's soooo cold here at the moment we have to stay indoors to avoid the winter chill! ha. xxx

I know what you mean about 'rules' I find it hardest to break out of my own habits in summer, due to not being able to just pile on layers. This is a sweet outfit, I love the horse brooch. Also good to see I'm not the only one with a lot of brown shoes!

I suggest lighter shades of brown and pinks for your lips, honestly. I think they will go well with your skin tone.

I love all your hats and shoes. you have so many!

I wish I could complain about the heat, all we have here is rain :)

You're colouring is pretty similar to mine and I swear by Mac's Ruby Woo, it's a 'cool' red so it works for olive skin.

It's good to see you in something so fun and playful Starr<3 You look adorable and gorgeous! I love that skirt! Still can't believe you found it at Goodwill! Ah! I would love to see you in lipstick too! I'm not a lipstick girl myself so I can't give any advice unfortunately but I can't wait to see you in it! <3

I love your top & skirt so much, what great thrifting finds! I totally know what you mean about the heat, moving back to central Arizona I've realized I feel much more tired, all the time. & I'd say try to purposely break a few of these rules you've set for yourself. Just give it a try & see what you think. & maybe even blog about it too, I did that with the first ever longer skirt I wore & the encouraging feedback really helped my sillyness.
