Yellow Rose

Dress & Purse: Estate Sale
OTK Socks: Target
BCBG Platforms: Smartbargain.com
Trench & Conch Necklace: Saver's

It turns out I was wrong about the weather. It's not supposed to rain anymore this week, and the frigid temperatures should be returning to the high 60s again soon! I think I gave a lot of awful faces during this shoot because it was so windy and cold out. As much as I love the Mount Holly Cemetery, I hate that we resort to it so frequently. It's the easiest and closest place to go since Corey started taking my photos on his lunch break. What a trooper that one is!

I found this dress at an estate sale over the weekend. It was instant love. The sale was in a 3-story home near Central High School (you know,  late 50s, Civil Rights, the Little Rock Nine) packed to the brim with pretty vintage dresses and purses, books and ammunition, board games and funky Christmas lights, all in old dusty packages with the best vintage fonts (my latest obsession). Besides all the great clothes, I also found a huge vintage chest for $30, something I've been casually looking for for ages now. Perhaps the greatest thing I found was a Montgomery Ward catalog from 1924. It has small pictures of everything you can possibly imagine buying –– clothes, rugs, pool tables, you name it. It's perfect for referencing the several different styles of shoes and clothes that were popular at that time. Jake's happy about it, too, says it'll be a good tool for him as a graphic designer. Now I want to start collecting them. Or at least one from every decade.

You really inspire me to invest more time in the location for my photographs, not just my outfits. Aside from those pangs of jealousy, I love the pairing of this very feminine dress with edgier shoes and no-nonsense bag. I can't wait to see how you wear it in the summer -- perhaps one of your amazing hats? You've absolutely inspired me to go to estate sales.

You know what? I was reading your post and I thought to myself, I have a similar dress like this. It's yellow, a little brighter than your one with blue roses... but what color coat am I suppose to wear with it? I mean yellow is a hard color to match. Then I scrolled down and see you've worn it with a tan trench. It definitely works with the shade of yellow on your dress, but not so much with my dress. Hmmm tricky.

I love this location and trust me, if I had access to a cemetery, I'd go there all the time. I love cemeteries oddly enough.

This dress is stunning. The shade of the yellow, the roses, the silhouette, that bow. Heavenly.

I love the print of this dress and the way Corey has photographed you to really bring out the colour. I am so jealous of the estate sales you get to go to. They sound so interesting. Old catalogues are great aren't they?

That dress fits you perfectly!! I swear, you make vintage look so modern and pretty with your accessorizing. I love the juxtaposition of the uber modern platforms (although 70s inspired) with the 50s,60s era dress. And don't feel bad for resorting to the cemetery. I like it as your background in your photos.

I really wish there were quality estate sales by me. you find some of the prettiest things at them. This is a gorgeous dress. It is okay that you are at that graveyard so often for photos. You make it a sunnier place when death is scattered about! Hope all is well with you.

Look at your forsythia blooming! I'm so jealous. Nothing is blooming here yet. I love the yellow flowers of your dress matching the blooms around you. :)

oh my gosh, that dress is amazing. i've been casually looking/mostly just dreaming of that exact dress for so long... you lucky girl! i should probably just go out and buy fabric and make it myself. i wish we had better estate sales here in vermont--it seems like you southern ladies have so much success, but people in vermont tend to hold on to their treasures for all time and then pass them down through the generations!

This dress is lovely! I'm always so impressed with the items you find at Saver's. I only recently had the privileged to move to a city that had Saver's and its quickly become one of my favorite shopping spots.
