Mattie meets Wednesday

Dress: ASOS
Vintage Coat: Saver's
Bowler & Tights: Target
Shoes: Madewell
Vintage Samsonite Bag: Little Ocean Annie
Horse Necklace: Gift from my sister

Has anyone seen True Grit yet? I've been dying to go ever since watching the trailer a few weeks ago. My dad's partly to blame for my interest in Westerns. . . I don't think I ever really tried to like them, he just always had them playing on Sunday afternoons, and it was inevitable that I'd get sucked in. The story lines were sometimes silly, but the characters were charming and the costumes were interesting.  As excited as I am about True Grit being another Coen brothers film (that's set in Arkansas!), I think I'm most excited to see the young female character, Mattie Ross.

Based on of the previews alone, I already know that Mattie's style epitomizes everything that I want mine to be right now. Black dresses, peter pan collars, braids, gaucho hats, and an olive green wool coats! I'm was so enthralled with her look that I had to do a little research on the costume designer. How did Mary Zophres manage to work in so many great trends when the costumes were probably arranged two years ago? I'm so glad she took Mattie's style a different direction than Dorothy Jeakins did in the 1969 version. It totally makes it for me.

All that said, my outfit was inspired by Mattie's look. I found this dress on the ASOS website, and fell in love with it, mostly because it's knit and reminds me of Orla Kiely's version of the season's staple dress. The inspiration behind my look is actually 95% Mattie, 5% Wednesday Addams. The Wednesday part has more to do with the setting. How goth of me to shoot this outfit in the cemetery!

You look adorable darling!! I love these photos and how you've worked the headstones and everything into them without being morbid... My boyfriend and I are actually hoping to go to the cemetary today to take some photos but I'm a little scared, I don't think I'm as brave as you are - posing so close to graves scares me :P

nice pictures and outfit * i like the fact that you're in a cemetery and you look happy.

Oh wow, I'm pretty sure that this is my absolute favorite of all of your outfit shoots! The scenery is just close to being morbid without quite getting there, and your outfit is really adorable and well put together :)
I also love the amount of personality that shows through.

These photos are beautiful!

Such a fantastic shoot! Your rendition of the Mattie/Wednesday combo came together perfectly.

I actually went and saw that movie last night with my boyfriend. The dialogue in it, as with all Coen brother movies, is spot on with the time period and the characters whose mouth it comes out of. Was a decent movie otherwise, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

I love how you even researched the costume designer for the movie. I haven't had a chance to go see it yet, but I've heard it's one of those movies that are best watched at home. I guess since it's so emotional, I'm not sure. And the photo shoot is pretty amazing work. I love the gothic atmosphere you guys created:)

Love this dress! "True Grit" was amazing. You should definitely see it, especially if you like westerns. I usually don't, but this one was beyond amazing! I give it five stars. And yes, Mattie dresses great in it--I love her oversized men's clothes. You did a great job of translating the look!

Love the outfit! I can see how it's Mattie inspired. I just saw the movie yesterday...it was really good! It honestly wasn't as good as I expected it to be...so I wasn't like blown away or anything. But it's definitely worth seeing. When Mattie wears her coat belted with that hat, it's perfect! That was the best part of the movie haha!

Oh my word! I'm pretty much actually drooling over this whole look! so so so perfect! That hat is making me want to wear mine .. and the dress futher encourages me to put a collar on every single dress I own!

The new layout looks amazing! It is super adorable and so you!

Beautiful!

I love this shoot! Cute outfit and I always like cemetery settings. :)

And now, I'm going to watch the trailer for that movie. I've never even heard of it being so isolated down here. It sounds good, though.

I get the Wednesday Adams vibe from your pictures - sort of tongue-in-cheek macabre! Very cool. I loved the original True Grit, I hope the new version can live up to expectations. Happy new year! x
