Guardian Lion

I've lived across the street from these lions for almost two years now, and I finally got the courage to go take photos next to them on Sunday. Our neighborhood isn't bad or anything, but we live downtown next to a liquor store, so we get a lot of sketchy traffic passing through. The people are harmless, but this house is abandoned and located right across the street from the liquor store, so it's where a lot of the bums like to post up.

Ever since watching (and becoming obsessed) with The Wire, I fabricated these elaborate stories that the guys who hung out there were just "working their corners". My imagination really took off when a giant roach coach vending truck moved in across the street. I had this big plan hatched that the detectives were working there massive drug case inside! ha. Then I remembered that we're not Baltimore. . .

Ralph Lauren Cardigan (shop similar) & Oxfords: Saver's // Vintage Esprit Skirt: Brownbag Vintage on Etsy // Tights: Zara // Vintage Samsonite Bag: Little Ocean Annie on Etsy

I'm not sure the location was entirely fitting for my preppier-than-normal outfit, but we were being extra lazy and wanted something rather close. Most of the pieces I'm wearing have been in heavy rotation with my outfits lately. The brown skirt was single-handedly one of the best purchases I've made this fall. I got it from Brownbag Vintage on Etsy just before leaving for New York, but I had no idea how much I would wear it this season. It's just so versatile!

The other item that I can't live without right now is my Samsonite bag from Annie's shop. Ever since getting the Sync job, I've been having to carry my camera around everywhere (which is a good thing). I wanted a camera bag that would go with everything that I wear, and so far this bag has been a great choice. I even started using it as my school bag on occasion too! I found a similar one on etsy for under $30 if you're looking for something like it.

i LOVE the color editing in these pictures!

i have red, green, and blue samsonite bags like that, and anytime i photograph a wedding, engagement pictures, etc., i always use one of those bags.

also, thank you SO MUCH for passing my name on to the people from boticca! that was so nice of you!

That lion is great! And I really like your preppy outfit. That's so funny about your fabricated story. I do that kind of thing all the time...then I have to remind myself that I made it up! I guess that's what tv does to us :)

Haha Starr, I love the way you mug for the camera! And also the skirt looks truly versatile. I always make the mistake of having too many dresses and not enough skirts...

Aw Thank you so much for your super sweet comments! I have been following your blog for such a long time and it has always been once of my top favourites so I was so flattered when you put one of my pictures on your tumblr! Funny thing is though I have thrifted about 10 dream vintage coats (and a cape) just recently so I have been living through your blog and dreaming it is fall!

Beautiful shots. Girl, your eyes.. make the close up of you and the lion all the more amazing.

Love your skirt. One of my skirts is starting to dissolve and I was wonderng about replacing it with a brown one but it 's hard to find a vibrant shade. Most seem so flat and lifeless. Absolutely adore yours and your bag is just excellent too :)

i just have to let you know how absolutely stunning you look in these photos, especially the ones of you leaning on the golden lion. :)

that skirt really is such a great find (i love it with your cardigan). and you're tempting me with your samsonite bag and the similar one you found on etsy. i'm so close to clicking the buy button! i must resist (or not)!

That outfit is just perfect. I think you're inspiring me to wear more flats!

Also I love that you're taking photos at a bum hangout across from a liquor store. I'm so nervous about that sort of thing that I don't think I could even watch The Wire. :)

You look gorgeous Starr! I love the photos and I love the lions! They kinda remind me of these ones I had outside my bedroom when I was little. It's a Filipino folk tale, but they are supposed to protect young children from evil spirits. Random fact hehe.

you are so vibrantly beautiful! good for you for finally going to the lions, maybe they have a secret message for you like a pair of oracles....they seem quite powerful. i like hearing about your neighborhood, the closest i've ever come was living in midtown sacramento but i really don't think it's the same vibe. you find the most incredibly strange and wondrous places.
