Lately I've been finding a lot of inspiration from photographers like Tamara Lichtenstein and Jamie Hopper who use beautiful layered effects on their photographs. I really have no idea how they do it—well, maybe a little—but I wanted to go ahead a try my hand at something similar.

The Hubble Space Telescope has been delivering incredible images from space since I was in kindergarten. It's been an immense source of inspiration for me over the years, and I thought it would mesh well with these photographs. I immediately remembered my favorite Hubble picture that I cut out of a National Geographic magazine years ago and eventually glued in my inspiration notebook next to a Zac Posen dress that looked like a living version of the Hubble shot—I remember that dress literally flowing like waves down the runway.

I'm sure these photos aren't great to a trained photographers eye—someone who actually knows how to do that technique— but I'm happy with the results. I hope to play around with Hubble a lot more before he closes up shop in 2014 when the bigger and better James Webb Space Telescope takes his place.

these are great! we have been playing a lot with film and double exposures and so far the result is pretty awesome. we got a ciro-flex film camera and it makes it super easy to do double exposures! i love the starry galaxy effect yours have!!

Oh my goodness Starr this is my favorite set of photos to date. I love the last one, it is so dreamy and ethereal, and I love that you incorporated Hubble into this post! When I was little I wanted to be an astronaut so much (mostly so I could eat space ice cream) and I had pictures of space all over my bedroom. It is insane that one image from a telescope down here is just a pinprick of space. I love that Hubble can take bigger pictures.
I hope there are more photos like this to come!

to my (very untrained ;) eyes these are mind-blowingly beautiful and creative and full of energy and wisdom. it's like Macro meets Micro, one tiny girl in flowing clothes in a whole huge universe that is also flowing. I love the second one soooo much; it just makes my heart glad to be alive amidst so much beauty and mystery. Inpiring once again, my dear!

I just noticed all the followers you got. I think the last time I actually looked at the amounts of followers you had it was at 550 or something. It was even less when I started following you. crazy! you go girl!

I love these!! The layering is awesome. I like the fact thatt the second layer is quite subtle -- I wouldn't have guessed it was space at first. Just stunning.

You make me wish that I had gotten the darker Miley Cyrus chambray shirt. I bet I could go back and see if they have it, I'm sure it will be, like, $2 now.

Awesome pictures! Also this has nothing to do with anything but I saw a post on another blog of you at a Cory Branan show and I am now not only jealous of your wardrobe but concert going as well. Hope you had a good time, I haven't seen Cory live in ages!

When I was younger my dad worked at NASA (hence the reason I grew up in Northern VA), and he would always bring me home fancy posters of photographs taken by the Hubble. My room was covered in all kinds of nerdy space posters!
