My Dream Clogs

I remember back in early spring when Rhiannon first proclaimed her love for Swedish Hasbeens on her blog. She let us all in on the Endless.com discount secret and caused a Swedish Hasbeen uproar in the blogging world. For months after that (and even still) it was Swedish Hasbeens, Swedish Hasbeens, Swedish Hasbeens everywhere I visited! There were so many times I regretted not making that purchase when they were priced at the all time low of $130, but then again, that's so-not-my-style to spend that kind of money on anything that's not electronic. I was convinced that I could find a pair at the thrift store for much, much cheaper than that. I kept my eyes peeled for any sort of wooden platforms, but after months of searching I had almost given up.

I think it was when Rhianon posted her ugly 90's bit about Chloe Sevigny's line for Opening Ceremony that I finally decided to give in to the hype. I loved the ridiculously high wooden platforms from that collection and the fact that they were done in my favorite accessory color, cognac brown (you know,  a tan color; do you call it something different?). I did a couple of searches and narrowed my picks down to this pair from Free People and this pair from pair from Jeffery Campbell. Both were around $135 (still way out of my price range), but I figured both would be able to carry me through the fall. Since it was such a big purchase, I decided to think about it for a day before selecting the pair I was going to buy.

For some weird reason, I decided (out of nowhere) to go to the thrift store on Sunday. I had tons of things to get done at home and really didn't need to make the trip, but I ended up going anyway. When I made it to the shoe section, I couldn't believe my eyes! There they were, a pair of size 8 (my size) wooden platform clogs in cognac brown for $6.99. Needless to say, it was like a mini party for one in the shoe section of the store. I couldn't have been happier that I waited to make the online shoe purchase!

I've been featured as Delightfully Tacky's Blogger of the Moment, I was featured on the Chictopia homepage for the very first time, and I'm holding a giveaway on Amanda's blog, The Upside of Wonder. It's been a very cool day to say the least!

Congratulations to Alice Kingsleigh, you are the winner of The Upside of Wonder clutch giveaway!!!

YYEEESSS! if you keep telling these kinds of stories, i'm never buying anything new again. haha that's the plan really, i love the idea!!! these are rad clogs and i love chance and synchronicity especially when it comes to thrifting. amazing luck lady! i love the way these look but for me they're definitely going to have to wait for fall, my feet would be sweating their little brains out in there. all summer long for me it can only be light breathy sandals cause i'm like a damn horse and very hard on shoes!

i looove when that happens!
i was close to buying a little bow necklace from my work for 20 bucks the other day and then I stumbled across a similar one at goodwill for $2.
not a big of a price jump as your clogs, but it made my day.

Holy Thrift Store Magic!

I LOVE IT when things like that happen. Once, I was about to blow $100 on vintage Ferragamo equestrian boots at Flashbacks, when the very next day I found them at Savers in my size for $6. Voodoo, I tell you.

Congrats!!

crikey those are some awesome clogs I can't believe you found them for so cheap they look really exspensive and good quality, your lucky you wear a size 8. don't you get a thrill when you find something so sublime I have a size 10 foot its very rare when I go into a thrift store and can find a great pair of shoes once I found the most amazing pair of lace up leather boots but they were a size 8.

Robin said...

Oh btw after reading some of the comments on here it looks at as if everyone is looking for swedish hasbeens, well I don't know if they are the same name brand but at urban outfitters they are selling them or knockoffs of swedish hasbeens for $65 , so yall might want to check it out

Anonymous said...

Thanks Robin for that tip on Urban Outfitter's Hasbeen-look alikes. Unfortunately they're a little too high for me (4.5 inch heel). 3 inches is my personal cut off for comfy shoe wearing. Anyway, for those that are interested if you use WELIKEYOU code during checkout you'll save 20% so they're only $68 with shipping.

Gah, so jealous of your thrifted shoes! I love when you find what you were looking for in single digit prices.

And congrats on all the recognition! You certainly deserve it, you have a beautiful blog and a wonderful flair for vintage. I actually visited via Delightfully Tacky's feature - I can't believe I wasn't following earlier!

Those clogs are awesome! I love finding things at thrift stores for practically nothing- especially if they are usually expensive! My best find so far is a pair of authentic Ray Ban Wayfarers for $4 :)

Always,

I guess sometimes you just need to be patient and wait it out. I've had some thrifting incidents like that as well. I found the item of my dreams and it fit perfectly! Ah, destiny!

I am so happy for you, Starr! The clogs are extra awesome because they were cheap too! That brown is my favorite for footwear as well :)

Anyway I saw chictopia and I was like 'it's Starr'! Then I saw your giveaway on Amanda's blog and read your interview on Elizabeth's blog! Congratulations on all! The interview is my favorite.

Wow! I've been stalking the Hasbeens online, trying to find a pair cheap (like you, even at $130 they were a bit pricey for me), but this gives me hope that maybe the thrift stores will eventually offer up some sort of clogs that fit the bill! What a great find!!! :)
