Mushrooms & Monkey's

I hope you guys don't think I'm Monkey-obsessed after seeing the photos from today's post, it's just that she always wants to hang when I'm in the middle of getting my shots. I figured since she was there, I'd pull out one of my favorite coffee table books and pretend to read it to her. The book is really a fascinating read. I first fell in love with the textured linen paper the pages are printed on, and then I noticed the spellbinding calligraphy and illustrations. It tells all about the history, the science, and the mythology of mushrooms along with the important facts of which are ones edible and which ones are poisonous.

If you remember when I first got Monkey back in April, I said I was going to find her a boater hat by the end of the summer. I pictured a very regal portrait of her looking like a lady in a teensy straw hat adorned with a little white ribbon, but I wasn't exactly sure how attainable that would be. I'm usually not one for dressing my pets (I think it's quite ridiculous actually), but for some reason my thing for important-looking animal portraits got a hold of me! I found a little straw hat at Goodwill a while back, but unfortunately it's always going to be a tad too big for her head. It's cute to play around with though.

Modcloth was kind enough to send me this dress while I was away at Bonnaroo, and I couldn't have been more satisfied with the fit when I got home to try it on! I've heard a lot of complaints about their dresses not fitting correctly, so I was certain to look at the measurements of everything I liked. I'm sure it's difficult running a boutique like that with different pieces from all over the world; sizes are bound to be a little different every now and then, but I promise you'll be much happier with your purchase if you just take the time to check out the measurements (plus this one is great because it's stretchy)!

I hope no one freaks out and thinks I'm gross because of this kissy-kissy photo. I promise we don't make out or anything, just a little love peck every now and then.

Dress: c/o Modcloth
Blazer: Goodwill .75 cents
Lace Bodysuit: AA $45
Shoes: Modcloth $55
Vintage Turban: Estate Sale $2

I saw the cutest little straw hats the other day when I was thrifting. They were probably about half the size of the one in your photo. If they are still there when I go back and not overly priced, I will totally pick one up for you!

I really want to see that adorable kitty in a fitting straw hat :)
