Lookbook.nu & Collection B

Recently I had the privilege of working with Lookbook.nu on their collaboration with Collection B for their Fall line of jackets. It was definitely a bizarre and exciting opportunity, and I have to admit I was quite shocked I was even asked to model one of the jackets. I post on Lookbook more often than any other style site, but as most of you probably know, vintage dresses don't get too many hypes in that area of the web. At first I was like, 'is this some kind of scam?' when Yuri contacted me last Tuesday, but when I heard from Whitney, the Lookbook intern, on the following Thursday I knew that it was a real gig!

It was a very rushed ordeal that filled me with a little bit of anxiety and a whole lot of excitement. I was supposed to get the jacket on Thursday, style it, shoot it, and have it back in the mail by Friday so it could get to a shoot in NYC on June 1st. I watched for the FedEx man like an insane family pet that day, running at the door anytime a loud truck passed by. Turns out the jacket didn't arrive til 3pm on Friday leaving me about two hours to get the job done. I was freaking out!

When I opened the jacket I was like, 'wow this is awesome, but this is soooo not my style'! I really did love the jacket though, and it was fun to focus my brain on a more urban, Lookbook-style outfit for the afternoon. But yes, I was going crazy thinking about the time and how quick I had to get this done!

The look was supposed to be styled for Fall since it is from their Fall collection which was also a little tough since it was about 90 degrees here that day. I styled a look with my American Apparel lace bodysuit and Tabio heart tights and went on a little drive to my secret location. As soon as I got there and took a couple shots I realized that I hated the outfit. I had to run home and change!!

Ahhh, even more freaking out!

The reason I hated the first look so much is because the jacket just blended in with my outfit. All that black was making it tough for the jacket to stand out! As I was driving home I was scheming for something floral to pair with it and something that still fell into the Fall color category.

BAM! My Forever 21 floral dress I got off the sale rack for $4 a couple years ago. It was perfect and still felt very 'me'.

I finished with about 20 minutes to spare, and when I dropped the jacket off at the FedEx drop box I realized that they didn't do their pickups until 7:30. I had two and a half extra hours and didn't even know it!

What a fun opportunity this was though! Big thanks to Collection B and Lookbook.nu for asking me to participate.

You were right to go with the second outfit, it is much more you! And that dress was only four bucks? Too cute!

Sounds so stressful! But from both the outfits, apparently you work well under pressure! The second outfit is my favorite, but the first one is SO fun!

the first outfit is pretty cute, but you're so right about the fact that the jacket doesn't really stand out from all the black. I love the seconde outfit though! the floral-leather combination is awesome and manages to creat a cool and urban yet very feminine look that really suits you and your style! you did an amazing job, way to go!

you totally made this jacket fit your style. i love it on you. and what a cool opportunity that was! i know i post on lookbook and don't get a lot of hype. i think it's because i don't take pics in fields with ripped up jeans/shorts/shirts/tights nor do i wear combat boots. but whateves it's still kinda fun.

I love this jacket. I have an all leather brown jacket that's a hoodie. It's so warm in California all year round, I feel silly wearing it. You'd put it to good use. I love the contrast of the femininity with the leather you incorporated.

I like the second styling more! Congrats on having such an opportunity. :)

I like that even if the jacket wasn't really your style you were able to make it 'yours'. :)

That is such a cool opportunity! I;m glad you enjoyed it. Cool!

it is pretty sad that lookbook.nu is more high fashion than vintage, but at least weardrobe and chictopia are fond of those fashions.

Yeah I can see how that jacket isn't quite your style from all the shots I've seen of you, but that was super nice of them to send it to you to shoot in!! I'd love to have clothes to wear for a day and send back. These shots of you are fabulous though!!!!

You look awesome! You really rocked up the floral dress. I love your face, btw. It sounds weird, I know, but you have the kind of face you don't forget.. Straight lines and smashing eyes. Gorgeous.

How do you get that button link, btw?

Wow, friend, this is a great story! And I totally know what you mean about Lookbook not appreciating us vintage girls. I post on there probably least often actually because I always feel so inadequate cause my photos don't get hyped! I guess it's not a popularity contest though; I'll have to keep reminding myself of that. BECAUSE, true beauty gets recognized which is why they asked you to be part of this amazing opportunity. You deserve it! Hope you're enjoying Bonnaroo! Love, Annie.
