Dedicated to the South.

I've been going through an extreme blues and rockabilly stage in music lately, listening to lots of 50's and 60's tracks. I've been trying to think of a clever way to share it with you, and when I found 8tracks website yesterday I knew I finally had the proper medium. I put together a small mix full of my favorite tracks. It's as southern as can be and may make you crave a road trip through the Mississippi Delta! You can listen to it here.

The event I worked last night was an awards ceremony in honor of all the major contributors to the Oxford American foundation. Oxford American is a highly respected literary magazine that features great writing and culture including music, photography, food, film and art. It's been regarded as the Smithsonian of the south by the New York Time's. It's really quite spectacular, and I've been riding a wave of excitement ever since I found out about it. It ties in so well with the feeling I've been trying to create with this blog and to discover that the headquarters is located at my old university just twenty minutes away was even more thrilling.

Oh how exciting Starr, I loved reading about you meeting Morgan Freeman! That's so amazing! Haha aren't you glad to have been carrying oysters? And you fed it to him?! Oh my gosh how exciting! I totally would have freaked out and probably would have dropped the oysters on him instead!

I looove your Southern girl themes. And your Morgan Freeman/oyster story made me laugh (yes, out loud). What a wonderful story! "No, I didn't just meet Morgan Freeman. I FED HIM. AN OYSTER ON A STICK."

Such a gorgeous location. Your outfit looks so carefree.

I wish where I am looked like this. Currently it's blizzarding outside. Yuck.

Oh, and I usually have at least three outfits hanging on my wall/on my dressform, haha! Too many outfit ideas, not enough time!!

Such a cute outfit with the hat and bag. I really love your easter dress in the last post to. Such pretty colors. What an awesome last day of work.. I'm glad Morgan Freeman was as awesome in person as he seems like he would be. I do want to hem my riding skirt but I bought a sewing machine 2 years ago and have only used it twice. Where does all the time go:)

aw!! good things are most certainly coming your way! i love the amount of detail you put in this post - even though we're miles away, i felt like i was right there. your talent for writing and storytelling is one of the reasons why i truly love reading your blog. obviously the other reason is your ability to create a scene with lovely clothing. you really captured the "country girl" aesthetic. your hat is too cute :)

I'm sure you've already heard this a million times, but that story is amazing!

It actually surpassed my expectations and I laughed out loud sitting in my living room alone. It made me feel silly.

P.s. Love the mix tape, exactly what I was looking for. And now an embarrassingly long comment.

The Morgan Freeman story is amazing. That's probably one of the coolest things I've ever heard. Something to tell your grandchildren, "Well, in my day, I got to feed Morgan Freeman an oyster..." "Grandma, who's Morgan Freeman?"

I love your outfit, by the way. You look very Mississippi Steamboat Queen.
